CM Punk & Lita Attending More UFC Events, MMA Veteran Upset

- CM Punk and Lita were in attendance for last night’s UFC on FOX show from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. The couple was seen sitting near the cage with other stars.
Punk attended last weekend’s UFC event also and will be attending the April 27th UFC 159 pay-per-view from New Jersey where his friend Chael Sonnen will take on Jon Jones.
On a related note, MMA veteran Mark Coleman was upset with Punk at last weekend’s UFC event. Because UFC producers decided to show Punk on TV instead of Coleman, Coleman became furious to the point he wanted to attack Punk and start a fight with him. Nothing came of it but the situation on Coleman’s side was serious enough that several people at the event were talking about it.

Dana White Talks Punk & JR, Jerry Lawler & Rick Steiner Appearances

- As noted earlier, Jim Ross met with Dana White this past week. White was asked about the meeting between the two during a UFC on Fox pre-fight press conference. White said that JR was “cool” and a really good guy, and it was the first time that they had met. White also said there wasn’t anything to CM Punk appearing at the UFC event last weekend, and that Punk just attended as a fan. White mentioned that he didn’t approach Brock Lesnar to sign with the UFC, and that Lesnar contacted him.
- Jerry “The King” Lawler is at the Cape Comic Con in Cape Girardeau, MO today until 6PM.
- The DWA presents “Rock ‘n’ Wrestling Night 2013” featuring Rick Steiner at the Schützenhalle in Visselhövede, Germany on May 4th, 2013.

Jim Ross Blog: Attending CAC Event, Edge, New Performance Center

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has published a new blog entry on JrsBarBq.com. Here are some highlights.
Attending CAC event: Great time at the 48th Cauliflower Alley Club Reunion this week in Las Vegas. It wasn’t a money making trip as my lovely wife attended and did her part to contribute to the economy of Vegas by doing two days worth of shopping. Seriously, we both had a wonderful time seeing so many old friends and fans that we have gotten to know over the years.
CAC is a great non profit organization that does many amazing, charitable things for those in need from within the wrestling biz. CAC doesn’t look for publicity as many of their benevolent acts would bring embarrassment to many of the recipients. But, take it from me, CAC helps lots of people that you know or have heard of over the years and I’m of the mindset that more people, fans and wrestlers alike, should join the organization. For more info check out the CAC website at http://www.caulifloweralleyclub.org.
Presenting Edge with an Award: I had the pleasure of presenting Adam Copeland AKA Edge the Male Wrestler Award from CAC in a surprise presentation. Only three people knew of this matter as it was a total surprise to Edge. I followed such powerful and serious presentations as the DDP/Jake the Snake Roberts duo and the late, Paul Bearer/Percy Pringle presentation so I attempted to ad lib my way into a more light hearted mood in what felt like a somber room and rightfully so at that particular time of the evening.
New performance center: The announcement earlier this week of the construction and soon to be opened for business WWE Performance Center in Orlando is HUGE news for the long term future and success of WWE and is a personal dream come true for me. Back in the mid 90′s when we started the developmental system in such markets as Louisville, Memphis, Cincinnati, and Los Angeles, I always wanted to someday have a NFL-like facility where athletes could be trained in all facets of the business. To successfully recruit world class, Division 1 like college athletes, we needed to have a facility that would fit every need and compete with the facilities that many of these high level athletes were accustomed to frequenting.

Backstage News on CM Punk’s Status, Problems with Creative and More

- Part of the reason why Brock Lesnar has returned and The Undertaker is working next week is because CM Punk won’t be returning anytime soon and WWE needs star power on TV.
Before this past Monday, the plan was for CM Punk to come out on RAW and whine about losing at WrestleMania 29, then walk out of the company in the storylines. This was held off from the post-WrestleMania RAW because officials felt that Punk would get a big reaction from the post-WrestleMania RAW crowd. Another reason it was held off is because Punk wasn’t happy with the verbiage they wanted him to use and didn’t want to come off as a whiner.
A few weeks back, Punk had a big blow up with WWE creative and wanted to give his notice to quit the company. He went and worked it out with top WWE officials. At that time, it was decided that Punk wouldn’t be working live events anymore, just TV and WrestleMania 29.
Between the backstage problems and severely tearing knee ligaments at WrestleMania, Punk was written off TV this past Monday at RAW. Punk will be fine once he rests up and lets his knees heal. Right now there is no set plan for Punk to return but word is that he won’t be back until SummerSlam time.

CM Punk on Meeting Dana White, Divas Division, WM29 Attire & More

As noted earlier, CM Punk appeared on The MMA Hour. Here are some highlights.
If WWE is dropping the ball with women’s wrestling: “Are they looking at it like that [as a money maker]? Probably not. Should they be? Yeah probably, maybe. There’s a big difference between what I do and what the fighters do, I have had this discussion many many times, also there’s a lot of similarities. But yeah, the women are red hot right now. You’d think on the pro wrestling side to try and capitalize on that.”
If there was heat for him attending last Saturday’s UFC event: “No. Nobody really talks to me. [laughter] No, I don’t think it’s an issue. I just think that before it was hey let’s do this it’ll be fun it’s in Chicago and for whatever reason he couldn’t stop to it.”
What he discussed with UFC President Dana White: “Just the fights and he was happy that, we always discuss how I can never come out to one of these things [fights]. We just discussed that. He said he was happy that I was finally there and I said you might not be able to get rid of me now.”
If he’s getting paid to wear the Gracie sweatshirt he wore at Wrestlemania: “I just don’t have any other clean clothes. No, I just think people need to know I represent the family and jiu jitsu because I love it and people ask me all the time if I roll or that awful question: do you train bro? Yeah, this is what I do. I guess it’s just me and what I do and I’ve done it before with other friends, my friends that are in bands. I rep the T shirts, I rep them on TV. There’s a lot of eyes on Monday Night RAW every Monday or whatever. I like to expose people to maybe something I feel that they don’t have in their lives that they need in their lives.”

Taker Has Surgery Before WM 29, Another Big Movie Date for The Rock

- Entertainment websites are reporting that Fast and Furious 7 will be released on July 11th, 2014. There is some speculation that The Rock will have problems filming the movie due to his obligations with Hercules.
- The Undertaker reportedly underwent minor knee surgery just a few weeks before his WrestleMania 29 match against CM Punk. The operation was described as a simple cleanup.

Why Flair Was at Raw, HHH Undergoes MRI, CM Punk Q&A Panel

- CM Punk will be doing a signing and photo session, followed by a Q&A panel at the June 28th Wizard World NYC Experience in New York City.
- Ric Flair was only backstage at Raw this past Monday to visit friends as he wanted to be around the boys.
- Triple H underwent an MRI to rule out a scaphoid fracture of his wrist, which is normally caused when someone falls on their hand with all their weight landing on it.

Heyman Comments on Punk Leaving, WWE Stars Scheduled for Comic Con

- During the beginning of the video, Paul Heyman was seemingly trying to get in touch with CM Punk to sort things out. Heyman was then asked to give a quote about Punk. “I’ll give you any story that you want,” Heyman replied. “Just let me get some substantive information first. OK?”
- John Cena, Daniel Bryan and WWE Hall of Famer Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat are scheduled to appear at the Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con in Philadelphia, PA at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The fan fest takes place from Thursday, May 30th through Sunday, June 2nd.

Big Reactions Expected for Two Stars Next Week, CM Punk’s Status

- No word yet on when CM Punk will return to working live events but he is off the European tour that begins this week. We noted before WrestleMania 29 that the plan was for Punk to take some time off from live events after the match with The Undertaker.
Punk taking time off was a hot topic at last night’s RAW. He is not expected to wrestle anytime soon. The feeling is that Punk’s lucky he doesn’t need surgery and will be fine as long as he takes time to rest his knees and heal.
- WWE officials are anticipating big reactions for Fandango and Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett on next week’s RAW and SmackDown, being taped from London.

CM Punk Talks About the Fandango Revolution, WWE Divas & More

- Before Monday’s RAW, CM Punk appeared on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani at MMAFighting.com.
Punk talked about the Fandango Revolution:
“I don’t think it’s a big joke, I want to see if the momentum can sustain itself. A lot of that has to do with the predominantly European crowd last week. I think it’s very akin to how they start soccer chants and I love it, I think it’s great, Fandango’s awesome. If we can get South Carolina singing his music tonight then we’re definitely onto something.”
Punk also talked about the WWE Divas & UFC’s women’s division, attending the recent UFC event and more. In the video below, Punk’s segment begins around the 1:10 mark:

Paul Heyman Talks About Greatest ECW Creation, What He Was in CM Punk & More

Brian Soscia recently interviewed Paul Heyman. Here are some highlights.
If Paul Heyman ran WWE, what would he do differently: “I’d fire the McMahons immediately.”
What was it he first saw in CM Punk: “How could you look at CM Punk and not think that he has the it factor? I don’t think I’m any great visionary or genius because I saw something in CM Punk, I think everyone else is a stupid schmuck for not seeing it in CM Punk. They’re blind. I mean truly, in the land of the blind the one eyed man is king and if you can’t spot that CM Punk is magic from the moment he walks in the door then you’re reading a playbook from an antiquated writer.”
His first wrestling memory: “As a fan my first memory was Argentina Apollo and Luis Martinez against the Love Brothers in Eddie Einhorn’s IWA in 1975.”
What drew him into wrestling: “The very next week [following the Apollo and Martinez vs. Love Brothers match] they were replaced on television by Vince McMahon’s father’s television show and I saw Superstar Billy Graham do one interview and I was blown away by it. I realized that that man does not work for a living. I said I don’t want to work for a living either. I want to talk s*** on TV like Superstar Billy Graham. That’s what I get to do for a living now.”
Where he gained his promo ability from: “My father was a personal injury attorney in the Bronx. I can bulls*** with the best of them.”
Who or what his greatest ECW creation was: “The ECW audience itself. The audience was the biggest star. We played to them and for a reason. They were the greatest performers we had. I mean, who else would have thought about actually chanting the name of the promotion? We didn’t come up with that. They did. Who else thought of then screaming out the name of the company and literally fighting our battles for us? We didn’t ask them to do it. They volunteered to. We didn’t get on pay per view on our own merits. We got on pay per view because the audience got us on. The greatest creation of ECW was the ECW audience.”

More on Why Punk Was Kept Off RAW, JR Comments on Cole, Big E

- Jim Ross gave props to Michael Cole via Twitter:

“Most don’t realize how valuable @MichaelCole is to #wwe. Helps produce @JerryLawler & keeps Texan @JCLayfield in line. Full time #Raw trio?”

- Big E Langston will debut his own theme song on tonight’s episode of WWE Main Event as he faces Zack Ryder.

- As noted before, CM Punk was kept off Monday’s RAW to sell The Undertaker’s win at WrestleMania 29. Another reason WWE officials kept him off RAW is because they didn’t want him to receive a massive pop from the post-WrestleMania crowd that was at Monday’s show. At one point, there were plans for Punk to come out and cut a promo but they nixed it.

Backstage News on The Undertaker, Injury Updates on CM Punk and HHH

- WWE published an article about last night’s crowd reactions. Wade Barrett called the audience “the best crowd America’s ever seen.”

- Bruno Sammartino tweeted this photo and caption about CM Punk’s drug free lifestyle.

“@CMPunk @WWE @WWEUniverse @TripleH DRUG FREE thats been my life and message for the past 77 years. We see eye to eye”
- John Cena told CNN that he wouldn’t mind going toe-to-toe with R&B singer Ray J. Apparently Cena is not a fan of his new track called, “I Hit It First”, which references the singer’s former girlfriend, Kim Kardashian.

“If he’s ridiculous enough to make a song as stupid as that, he certainly is ridiculous enough to make a bad decision to step in the ring with John Cena anytime, anywhere. I would love for him to be a superstar for a day on WWE and I’d hopefully knock some class into him.”

Injury Updates on CM Punk & Lesnar, Likely Main Event for Extreme Rules

- Brock Lesnar was knocked out cold after a knee from Triple H about five minutes into their WrestleMania 29 match. There is speculation that Lesnar suffered a concussion and kept going.

- Regarding CM Punk, we noted that he busted up his leg in the WrestleMania match against The Undertaker, when he did the elbow drop onto the announce table. Punk got x-rays on Sunday night and reportedly has to go in for a MRI. He will return on next week’s RAW to address the loss.

- Talk even before last night’s closing angle on RAW was that Ryback vs. John Cena for the WWE Title will main event the Extreme Rules pay-per-view on May 19th.

Backstage Update from RAW on The Rock’s Injury, Why CM Punk Was Kept Off Tonight’s RAW

- CM Punk was kept off tonight’s RAW to sell his loss to The Undertaker and because he’s banged up. As noted, he will be on next week’s RAW.

- The Rock’s torn abductor and abdominal muscles injury is reportedly a legitimate injury. The story is that Rock left WrestleMania abruptly after learning of the injury. He immediately went home to get treatment because he has to film Hercules soon.

There was initially heat on The Rock because many within WWE were not aware of the injury. The heat is gone although there was grumbling among some wrestlers that if they can work hurt, Rock could have at least came out and done a promo. WWE was not informed of Rock’s injury until well into this afternoon, causing mass re-writes to RAW and the chaos that comes along with it.
