Punk attended last weekend’s UFC event also and will be attending the April 27th UFC 159 pay-per-view from New Jersey where his friend Chael Sonnen will take on Jon Jones.
On a related note, MMA veteran Mark Coleman was upset with Punk at last weekend’s UFC event. Because UFC producers decided to show Punk on TV instead of Coleman, Coleman became furious to the point he wanted to attack Punk and start a fight with him. Nothing came of it but the situation on Coleman’s side was serious enough that several people at the event were talking about it.

Jim Ross Blog: WWE Scouting, Brock Lesnar’s Performance, Tours & More

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has published a new blog entry on JrsBarBq.com. Here are some highlights.
WWE scouting: WWE will continue to look to colleges, the NFL, etc for world class athletes who have TV friendly personalities and the aptitude for sports entertainment. College athletes will come from wrestling, football, basketball, etc…no sport will be not considered if all the previously listed criteria is in place. For example, I’m planning on attending an upcoming major, Strongman competition just to see if there may be one individual who might have the youth, strength, look and personality for WWE to consider as a potential developmental talent.
For novice athletes who aspire to join WWE, I suggest that you attend a credible wrestling school and obtain proper training. After one gets proper training, do all you can to work as many indy dates as possible, get your body of work in place and then make inroads to WWE Development with a DVD of some of your bouts and of you doing succinct promos.
Would a beginner walk into a NFL training camp and expect a tryout? Obviously, no.
WWE tours: The current WWE International tour is doing sellout or near capacity business nightly which is another statement of the global growth and the massive, media footprint that WWE has established over the years and that continues to grow. I’m of the belief that one of the reasons for success is that WWE tours these areas no more than twice annually. Some international markets are better served once a year while others are still developing their TV following and will be added to the schedule in the future.
Tonight’s UFC event: Big night for UFC tonight in San Jose on Fox on what I think will be a really fun night of fights. I like @BensonHenderson and his personal ‘story’ plus the fact that he always has action filled fights. Picking Daniel Cromier, the former OSU Cowboy, to beat Frank Mir in a heavyweight fight. I’d expect a hot, live crowd because of the ‘local’ influence of many of the fighters on the card and that crowd passion always, or it should, resonate at home.
Brock Lesnar’s performance: Watched Brock Lesnar’s performance on Raw Monday again on DVR and it always amazes me how naturally animalistic Lesnar is and what an amazing athlete that he is. Lesnar got to the ‘first team’ quicker and the most effectively of any one that I can recall that we signed back in my era in talent relations. No one we ever signed was more athletically gifted than the former NCAA and UFC heavyweight champion. No one. Brock was making amazing money in WWE quicker than any of his predecessors or any one since.
@BrockLesnar was the best rookie that I recall seeing in WWE.

The Rock was Considered for Transformers Role

Director Michael Baby stated tells E! Online that The Rock was up for the lead role in his next Transformers movie, which ended up going to Rock’s Pain & Gain co-star Mark Wahlberg. Bay wouldn’t reveal who the first choice for the movie was, but did say that it came down to “availability.”
The Rock and Wahlberg discussed some of the controversy over Pain & Gain. The movie is based on a true story about a murder case, and several of the victims are upset that the killings are being used for a comedy. The Rock admitted that “it was a crazy time” in Miami when the actual murders took place, but didn’t say much more about it. Wahlberg said they they did try to protect the victim’s identities and that he was sensitive to the victims and their families.

Dana White Talks Punk & JR, Jerry Lawler & Rick Steiner Appearances

- As noted earlier, Jim Ross met with Dana White this past week. White was asked about the meeting between the two during a UFC on Fox pre-fight press conference. White said that JR was “cool” and a really good guy, and it was the first time that they had met. White also said there wasn’t anything to CM Punk appearing at the UFC event last weekend, and that Punk just attended as a fan. White mentioned that he didn’t approach Brock Lesnar to sign with the UFC, and that Lesnar contacted him.
- Jerry “The King” Lawler is at the Cape Comic Con in Cape Girardeau, MO today until 6PM.
- The DWA presents “Rock ‘n’ Wrestling Night 2013” featuring Rick Steiner at the Schützenhalle in Visselhövede, Germany on May 4th, 2013.

Ryback Says Change Is Inevitable, Extreme Rules Theme, The Rock Honored

- Here are Ryback’s latest tweets:
“First rule of #RybackRules is there are no rules. Change is inevitable. I am on a mission. Target not John Connor, but JC is who I see. Workout tip #1. Hard work always works. In Dublin on zero sleep and legs will be destroyed in gym. You will understand me soon. #RybackRules”
- The theme song for WWE’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view is “Live It Up” by Airborne.
- The Rock was recognized by the University of Miami’s Alumni Association with the Edward T. Foote II Alumnis of Distinction Award on Thursday night.

Jim Ross Blog: Attending CAC Event, Edge, New Performance Center

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has published a new blog entry on JrsBarBq.com. Here are some highlights.
Attending CAC event: Great time at the 48th Cauliflower Alley Club Reunion this week in Las Vegas. It wasn’t a money making trip as my lovely wife attended and did her part to contribute to the economy of Vegas by doing two days worth of shopping. Seriously, we both had a wonderful time seeing so many old friends and fans that we have gotten to know over the years.
CAC is a great non profit organization that does many amazing, charitable things for those in need from within the wrestling biz. CAC doesn’t look for publicity as many of their benevolent acts would bring embarrassment to many of the recipients. But, take it from me, CAC helps lots of people that you know or have heard of over the years and I’m of the mindset that more people, fans and wrestlers alike, should join the organization. For more info check out the CAC website at http://www.caulifloweralleyclub.org.
Presenting Edge with an Award: I had the pleasure of presenting Adam Copeland AKA Edge the Male Wrestler Award from CAC in a surprise presentation. Only three people knew of this matter as it was a total surprise to Edge. I followed such powerful and serious presentations as the DDP/Jake the Snake Roberts duo and the late, Paul Bearer/Percy Pringle presentation so I attempted to ad lib my way into a more light hearted mood in what felt like a somber room and rightfully so at that particular time of the evening.
New performance center: The announcement earlier this week of the construction and soon to be opened for business WWE Performance Center in Orlando is HUGE news for the long term future and success of WWE and is a personal dream come true for me. Back in the mid 90′s when we started the developmental system in such markets as Louisville, Memphis, Cincinnati, and Los Angeles, I always wanted to someday have a NFL-like facility where athletes could be trained in all facets of the business. To successfully recruit world class, Division 1 like college athletes, we needed to have a facility that would fit every need and compete with the facilities that many of these high level athletes were accustomed to frequenting.

Triple H Talks Attitude Era & Marriage with Stephanie McMahon

Triple H spoke about the Attitude Era during an interview with Forbes.com.
“It’s one of those things — I’ve talked about this with Austin and a little bit with Rock, too — you don’t realize is happening at the time; it’s just what you’re doing,” said Triple H. “We were all so wrapped up in what we were doing, and it was so competitive with each other. It’s only now that I think we can look back and go, ‘Wow. That was a pretty special time, and we shared some pretty special things all together and made history.’ I think at the time you’re doing it, you realize it’s going well, but you’re just so deep in there that you can’t even fathom really what you’re doing. To look back at it now and see all those times, and to watch the video game…when we did the voiceovers to the video game, to go back and watch some of those scenes take place, it’s crazy because you forget what a…that was just another day then.”
When asked what keeps the “fire burning” in his marriage with Stephanie, “What keeps a fire burning? A big log. It keeps the fire burning”, said Triple H.
Stephanie McMahon stated that Triple H “almost defined the Attitude Era.” Triple H discussed his wife watching his matches.
“It’s funny because she knows me so well that she sees the smallest little things in there and when I come back she’ll be like, ‘Then this happened,’” he said. “She knows all the little intricacies of everything we do and knows me so well that she can see it whether I’m hurt or not hurt. She’ll be watching almost more intently than anybody.”

WWE Compares John Cena to Superman, Goldust Falsely Advertised, Outside the Ring

This episode features Mick Foley visiting the WWE warehouse to shoot the cover of his new DVD. Foley noted that the warehouse was in an “undisclosed location,” and also commented on some of the items in the warehouse, including the steel chair that the Rock battered him with at The Royal Rumble in 1999.
- Goldust is falsely advertised by an organization by the name of Platte Nebraska for an appearance for this weekend. Goldust noted to Raj Giri of WrestlingInc that the misleading advertising “won’t be tolerated.”

Trish Stratus Talks About Getting Into Wrestling, Avoiding The Dark Side & More

As noted earlier, Trish Stratus was interviewed on TSN’s Off The Record. Here are some highlights.
On getting into wrestling and quitting at the right time: “Well, I feel I had a robust seven years. … It was so full. I’ll put it this way: When I retired, everyone asked do you regret leaving? Do you miss it? I never missed it, I never regretted it. I did everything I wanted to do in the business. I had sort of a bucket list I guess you could say of things I wanted to do and things I wanted to accomplish.
“I worked with every girl that was a worker in the company. And I had really great storylines, not only with the girls but with the men superstars. So, I really had a full career that allowed me to do a bit of everything.”
“…I recognized there was a limited shelf life. I mean, as a fan, you watch it and you just know — there’s a point where you watch it and you go, that guy should just go away. I think I knew at 30 that 30 was a good time to leave. There’s all that hot business, and I didn’t want to be that hot chick that looks good for a 30-year-old.”
On avoiding the dark side of the business: “First of all, I had a very healthy background coming from the fitness world. I knew that my body was my instrument and that’s what allowed me to continue doing what I was doing. I just literally did not go out. In school, I was always a nerd. I did my school work, my studying — and in WWE it was the same thing.
“I didn’t go out and do the bar thing. I just went out and I did my job. I’m here to work. I didn’t want to go out and even if I was just tired, I’d be affected in my match. My body work is affected by my sleep the night before. So, for me, I was just aware of that the entire time.”
“…I had a back-up plan. A lot of the guys, that’s just their life. For me, it was a part of my life, it wasn’t my life. I had extracurricular activities I was pursuing. I was pursuing other businesses and I [took an interest in] branding myself. Whatever I create here for the next seven years, I need to take that and hopefully parlay that into something else.”
On what it means to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame: “You go into any profession, any career, and you want to leave an impression and a mark. I mean, knowing what we did in the women’s division and the work I did during that time, I mean, we really changed how women’s wrestling was perceived. And the role of females was kind of redefined after we did all that work. So, it was kind of a nod to my body of work, which is sexy. [Laughs.] Sorry.”
On the memorable angle where Vince McMahon made her strip and bark like a dog: “It was funny because my character did an evolution but the women’s division and the way women were viewed also did an evolution. So for that moment, it was like, yes, he degraded me. Then there was that moment where my character was like, ‘I’m not taking this anymore.’ She stood up to Vince, slapped him at WrestleMania 17 — the biggest stage of all — and moved on to become a full-time wrestler on her own. That’s what Trish Stratus did. But for us, that’s what we did too. The women were simply storylines, they were on the side. Now, we are actually a viable part of the program.”

Ryback Says He Wants To Face The Undertaker, Carlito Makes Fun Of Dolph Ziggler

- Ryback mentioned in the May 2013 issue of WWE Magazine that one of his goals is to go one-on-one with The Undertaker at WrestleMania.
“For [The Undertaker] to be able to last this long in a business where you see the roster changing every year, it’s really amazing,” Ryback remarked. “I know it’s one of my goals to step in the ring at WrestleMania with him someday. It didn’t happen this year, but I’m hoping I’ll be at the very top of that list next year.”
- Former WWE Superstar Carlito took a lighthearted jab at Dolph Ziggler on Twitter Thursday over the one-time Wellness offender’s physique. After revealing his goal to become “shredded” again following a muscle-gaining program, the 34-year-old jokingly said he’ll look similar to the WWE Superstar, but with muscles.
“Bulking process is done! Now back to being shredded!” wrote Carlito. “Im gonna look like a dolph ziggler…well, if he had muscles!!”

The main event saw John Cena beat Ryback in a Tables Match, which could be a tease for their Extreme Rules match.

WWE Reportedly Forces El Generico Fan to Change Seats at RAW

- At Monday’s RAW from Greenville, South Carolina, a fan reportedly held up a “RAW Is Generico” sign and was moved by security, taken from his paid seat to the opposite side of the arena and a seat filler took his seat at ringside. The fan asked security why he was being moved and was told the people running the show didn’t want him sitting there because of his sign.
The fan reportedly asked if they could just take the sign and let him sit at ringside but was told by a security guard that he was about to be kicked out because the people running the show, presumably WWE officials, didn’t want him there. Another guard told the fan that wasn’t correct, they just didn’t want him in front of the camera. Apparently another man who was sitting with the fan also had his seats changed after he was seen holding up a sign related to Ring of Honor.

Possible Tag Title Change at WWE Extreme Rules, Other Likely Matches

- We’ve noted that Ryback vs. John Cena for the WWE Title, Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar in a steel cage and Jack Swagger vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. Dolph Ziggler for the World Heavyweight Title are set for WWE’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view.
Another likely title match for the pay-per-view will be two members of The Shield vs. Kane and Daniel Bryan for the WWE Tag Team Titles. This is likely where Team Hell No will drop the titles. Before the WrestleMania 29 undercard was re-done, there were plans for The Shield to capture the titles there.
Other matches likely for Extreme Rules are Nikki Bella vs. Kaitlyn for the Divas Title, Mark Henry vs. Sheamus and Randy Orton vs. Big Show.

Superstar Billy Graham’s Agent Provides Update

Superstar Billy Graham’s agent Scott O Epstein has released the following statement regarding Graham:
“In case you are not aware of the post Wrestlecon/Mania trip Billy went on a well deserved “vacation” with his lovely wife of forever Valerie in her new car, as Billy had never seen the Grand Tetons and this was part of his bucket list with a painting of them at a later date. They traveled approximately 1000 miles from home, are on the Utah/Wyoming border and Billy gets sick in multiple ways…..first possible blockage in colon, ER admitted him as the liver plays tricky stuff with your body. Upon having a bout of Reflux syndrome, it went back down not the esophogas but into the lungs causing pneumonia. This is particularly dangerous because acid reflux going into lungs way different than water ..it has much bacteria ……..next discovery is that Billy is bleeding internally and they have to find out from where. He is not feeling very well nor ding very well and Valerie is naturally very stressed. I may go there to help her if the air fares come down from outrageous prices.
This is not a very good scenario and far more crucial than the bout her had recently before WM and the ones he gets every so often due to the compromised immune system. Asking all fans, friends, colleagues to seriously pray. I know he is strong as an ox but this time I am actually frightened.
Scott O Epstein, agent and friend

“It’s not possible for me because I’m shooting Hercules this summer starting in 6 weeks in Budapest, so, possible for them I’m not too sure. I haven’t heard anything about that and I’m pretty sure I would have gotten a phone call pretty early in the morning if that was the real plan. Not quite too sure though.”
Fast and The Furious 7 is currently scheduled for a release date of July 11th, 2014.

- Ryback has posted a new Tweet since deleting all his earlier posting from his Twitter account.
“If you have something worth fighting for you have to fight for it. Being bred to b scared is the problem. Rules will be broken. #RybackRules”

Bruno Sammartino Talks About Meeting with Vince McMahon

- 2013 WWE Hall of Famer Bruno Sammartino recently appeared on The NB Show and talked about meeting with Vince McMahon during WrestleMania 29 weekend:
“The private meeting that took place was at MSG that evening [of the Hall of Fame],” Bruno said. “His son-in-law Triple H and Stephanie [McMahon] came to my dressing room, I had my own dressing room, and they asked me, you know, Vince is waiting in his dressing room down the hall and if I minded going over there. I went. Stephanie opened the door and I went in and she shut the door so Vince and I were alone.
“He was standing toward the back of the room. And as I came in I was waiting for him to make the first move to see what he was going to say before I responded. And actually as I walked in he looked at me and he smiled and said ‘Bruno, welcome home’ just like that. And I said ‘Well Vince I’m glad to be home, but we both know the situation and what brought me back home. I have been very critical of you.’ I told him right to his face, ‘You know I have been very critical of you, but I also will recognize the fact that you have made drastic changes and for that I applaud you. But for all these years, I did not like what happened to the business that I spent 25 years in and the turns it took; drugs, nudity, etc.’ Vince said, ‘Well Bruno, I know you were always very outspoken about what you believed, I hope now you are satisfied of the changes. They are in the past, we want to go forward and we want to do a better and better product. And we are very happy that you are back.’
“He did say this to me which I appreciate, ‘When it was the World Wide Wrestling Federation you were the main reason for this organization to become as big as it did. So we want this (HOF Induction) to happen and we’re thrilled that it has happened.’ And that was it. So I said, ‘Thank you. As long as things stay that way and keep moving forward with improving the product. At this stage of my life there is not much I can do to contribute, but if there is something, especially with young talent, I’d be willing to do that. As long as the product gets better and better.’ And that was it basically.”

- Following Ryback’s tweet about John Cena’s ex-wife, every single one of Ryback’s tweets at @Ryback22 have been deleted. Ryback’s account now reads, “@Ryback22 hasn’t tweeted yet.”

SoCal Val Talks About Being a Producer for TNA Wrestling

TNA Announcer and producer SoCal Val was interviewed by Stephen Sonneveld of the Bleacher Report. Here are some highlights.
On how long she has been producing segments for Impact Wrestling: Oh, a couple years, maybe. But it sounds funny, “Oh, I’m a producer.”
On what her producing duties entail: I started producing backstage about a year or two ago, and it pretty much just entails me helping talent go through different lines that we need for television shows and commercials. A lot of it is international, like we just did some liners today for Germany, and it’s basically just a wrestler coming in and saying, “I’m such-and-such,” saying hello to all of our fans in Germany. So, it’s basically just me running a prompter and knowing the scripts, and just kind of directing the talent, which is really, really cool. If I’m not on camera, I’m usually behind the camera helping them.
On whether she planned to be on camera during her producing time: Oh, definitely, that was always my goal, which is to do what I’m doing now, which is the hosting and announcing, because to me—well, also to be a manager. But the thing with being a manager is that there’s not always longevity in a certain amount of time in a storyline. So, to me, all I wanted to do was to be involved with wrestling, and to creatively contribute, and to host on the camera and talk on the mic, so I’m really lucky that that’s what I’ve got to do for so long.
On whether she is happy with her current position in TNA: Honestly, I’m really, really happy with what I’m doing. A lot of times at the live events, I’m the emcee and ring announcer for the entire event, and really the only one on the mic. Our merchandise guy does help with intermission and things like that, but as far as being the emcee for the whole show, I get to do that. So, in addition to live events, and now doing this hosting backstage and being the anchor for a lot of the commercials, especially with a lot of them being international, that’s exciting. I’m really happy with where I am, I have to say.

- Tara revealed on Twitter that she won’t be attending any Impact Wrestling TV tapings for a few months, and noted that she is sorry.

James Storm Talks About Impact on the Road, Only Four PPV’s a Year & More

James Storm was recently interviewed by Power-Wrestling Radio Germany. Here are some highlights from the interview.
On Impact Wrestling going on the road full time: I think its a great move by tna because I think that’s what they need, exposure. I know its great being in the impact zone and on the road everyone has to start stepping up; Everybody from the office to the marketing department to the guys in the ring putting on a show and i think so far everyone has stepped up.
Backstage reaction to going on the road and rumors that some guys were unhappy: I haven’t seen any of those guys running around the locker room. As far as everyone that I hang out with in the locker room, we are all thrilled to do it. We are happy to get out of the impact zone. Especially being there since day one. I’ve been at the impact zone since we started there. You have to kill yourself to get a reaction out of those guys coming in there for 7, 8 years.
TNA cutting down to four pay per view events: I think its great. When I was growing up we just had the four pay per views, the Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, Summerslam and Survivor Series. Nowadays, we have the WWE running a pay per view every month, we have TNA running a pay per view every month, we have MMA. Scooby Doo is on pay per view now. I think it became too saturated.
On TNA fans having mixed reactions about Hulk Hogan coming to TNA: Ah you know anyone can sit back and pick any body apart they want. You always see the un-named source or something like that. As far as I’m concerned every chance I have had to work with him he has helped me out a lot. He tries to pull me aside after I have a match or promo and he don’t ever talk down to me or anything. He will just tell me, try this next time. Next time i try it and it will work or not work. He is the first one there when I come back.
He is also recognizable. I think he is more recognizable than our President. I mean, if you were in an airport and the President and Hulk Hogan were there, you would probably recognize Hogan first. Am I right?
On his short title reign: To me it is what it is. I can now say I was world heavyweight champion. I don’t care if it was for just 30 seconds. I can put that on my resume that I was TNA world heavyweight champion. I think I could have done a lot more with it. It’s one of those things that my time will come again and when it does, I’ll be ready.
This time when it comes I’m going to make the best of it and show the world what I got. Show TNA management that I am deserving of being champion. The highest rated show was when I became champion, Just wanted to throw that out there!
On the departure of Vince Russo: I remember I used to go up to BG James, the Road dogg also Kipp Billy Gunn, they helped me out a lot. When Vince Russo was writing the show. I would take my stuff over to Road Dogg and ask him ‘hey do you mind if I go out and just say whatever’. He would tell me, go ahead. You see Vince [Russo] he’s from the New York. New York people don’t truly know how southern people talk. He isn’t going to write something for a guy from the south.
I would go up to Vince and ask him ‘hey can I say whatever’ and say go ahead. He let me go out and ever since then I would just go out and do my own thing.
I miss Vince Russo. I had a close relationship with Vince. I really like Vince a lot and I think he did good for the company. I think whatever happened, happened. It’s none of my business or whatever but as far as me and Vince’s relationship. I always felt like I could talk to him and find out what was going on and where this is headed and add my input.

Backstage News on CM Punk’s Status, Problems with Creative and More

- Part of the reason why Brock Lesnar has returned and The Undertaker is working next week is because CM Punk won’t be returning anytime soon and WWE needs star power on TV.
Before this past Monday, the plan was for CM Punk to come out on RAW and whine about losing at WrestleMania 29, then walk out of the company in the storylines. This was held off from the post-WrestleMania RAW because officials felt that Punk would get a big reaction from the post-WrestleMania RAW crowd. Another reason it was held off is because Punk wasn’t happy with the verbiage they wanted him to use and didn’t want to come off as a whiner.
A few weeks back, Punk had a big blow up with WWE creative and wanted to give his notice to quit the company. He went and worked it out with top WWE officials. At that time, it was decided that Punk wouldn’t be working live events anymore, just TV and WrestleMania 29.
Between the backstage problems and severely tearing knee ligaments at WrestleMania, Punk was written off TV this past Monday at RAW. Punk will be fine once he rests up and lets his knees heal. Right now there is no set plan for Punk to return but word is that he won’t be back until SummerSlam time.

Original Plans for Brock Lesnar and Triple H, Early WM Buyrate News

- It will be a few months before we get an official buyrate for the WrestleMania 29 pay-per-view but F4Wonline.com reports that three different sources this past week stated that very early estimates do not look good. One number being floated around was “downright shocking.” WWE’s own internal projections were lowered substantially in the final week before the pay-per-view based on the Elimination Chamber buys coming in lower than expected.
- Original plans for Brock Lesnar and Triple H had them re-visiting the feud later this year, not doing a third match at Extreme Rules. The planned angle with The Rock and Brock Lesnar for the post-WrestleMania RAW that didn’t happen would have built to a SummerSlam match, not a WrestleMania XXX match as previously reported.
Regarding The Rock, there is a lot of concern, or maybe just paranoia, among people within WWE that he will never wrestle again.

HHH Appears After SmackDown, Flair Attends Post-Masters Party, More

- Before going to RAW on Monday, Ric Flair was at Hootie & The Blowfish’s Monday After The Masters event. Here he is with his agents from Legacy Talent:
- WWE will return to Knoxville, Tennessee for SmackDown on November 19th. The pre-sale is going on now and the password is Knoxville.
- After last night’s WWE SmackDown tapings ended in Knoxville, The Shield came out and attacked Randy Orton and Sheamus. This led to Triple H, wearing a cast on his arm, making the save. The babyfaces hit their finishers on The Shield to end the show.

WWE Reports Triple H Has a Sprain and Contusion

- As noted earlier, Triple H underwent an MRI on his wrist on Monday. WWE’s website has posted an update reporting that Triple H suffered a contusion and carpal sprain to his left wrist. Triple H will have to wear a splint for the next few weeks.
WWE is teasing that Triple H may not be able to perform in the steel cage match at Extreme Rules against Brock Lesnar. WWE doctor Michael Sampson added that Triple H may not be able to perform at Extreme Rules but will be able to train.
